How to find the best coverage for you

While price is a key factor when comparing travel insurance policies, you’ll also want to compare coverage levels, as they should suit your needs.

This is vital otherwise you could find yourself sidelined if something goes wrong.

The basic elements of your insurance will cover medical emergencies, cancellation and loss of baggage and personal effects. According to the government’s Money Helper website, there should be at least £1 million of medical cover included for travel within Europe and £2 million or more for the US, £2,000 of medical cover included. cancellation (it should cover the cost of your trip) and at least £1,500 for lost or stolen luggage and personal effects.

You’ll also want to make sure you add additional coverage to your policy or purchase specialty coverage if you’re going on a winter sports trip or have any pre-existing medical conditions.

Why it makes sense to compare products and suppliers

Vacations should be fun and worry-free, but that can easily change if a costly emergency arises.

It’s important that you have the right type of insurance and the right levels of cover for your needs, otherwise you could end up paying medical bills or replacing lost luggage.

Whether you are taking out a new policy or your annual travel insurance needs to be renewed, it is worth comparing a range of policies, looking at factors such as price, but also the limitations and exclusions of your cover, as they differ from one font to another.

For example, annual travel insurance will have a maximum limit on the number of days you can travel per trip, as well as the number of trips you can take in a 12 month period.

Also pay attention to the exclusions from coverage of risks related to Covid. For example, some suppliers won’t pay if you have to cancel your trip due to Covid illness, while others will.

Most insurers do not cover trips against FCDO advice.
