Who are Able2Travel?

Able2Travel is a specialist travel insurance solution designed for those over 50 or those with pre-existing or newly diagnosed conditions.

The company helps those who cannot be covered with a standard travel insurance policy due to age or medical condition. Each case is handled on an individual basis, taking into account medical condition and intended holiday destination, to provide the right cover.

Able2Travel was developed by Voyager Insurance Services Ltd, which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Why should I consider Able2Travel?

Able2Travel offers single trip and multi-trip annual travel insurance policies in three levels of coverage: Silver, Gold and Platinum.

All Able2Travel policies come with Covid-19 cover as standard, including cancellation cover if you are diagnosed with the virus within 14 days of the booked departure date. Emergency medical and repatriation costs will also be covered if you contract the virus while abroad.

Customers have the option of adding additional coverage for an additional premium, including coverage for winter sports, gadgets, golf and cruises. There is also an extended caregiver coverage option for single trip policies if you need a caregiver to accompany you on your trip.

Finally, Able2Travel’s Platinum policy is rated five stars by Defaqto.

How to find the best coverage for you

Getting affordable travel insurance is important, but there are also a number of other factors you’ll need to consider. Choosing the cheapest policy you can find doesn’t necessarily mean it offers the best protection and could put you at risk of being underinsured.

According to our partner CYTI, the majority (85%) of travel insurance claims are for medical treatment abroad and trip cancellation. The remaining part is made up of claims for lost baggage and property, as well as travel disruptions and delayed departures.

Each travel insurance policy offers different levels of cover for these most common types of claims, so it’s important to factor that into your comparison. Don’t select a policy based on price alone.

It is recommended to check how your policy handles Covid risks. See our Best Covid-19 Travel Insurance Policies page for more information.

Why it makes sense to compare products and suppliers

Travel insurance is a competitive market, with insurers trying to outbid price and coverage in an effort to win your business. You can use this to your advantage by finding the best deal and not automatically renewing if your annual multi-trip coverage expires.

As part of your comparison, it’s also a good idea to research customer reviews on sites like TrustPilot to see how existing policyholders rate their coverage and customer service. Defaqto also awards stars to travel insurance providers, which can be a good indication of the service they provide.
